Motiva Preserve breast augmentation with Dr. Claire Duggal

Motiva Preserve Breast Augmentation

A less invasive approach to breast augmentation: Motiva implants placed above the muscle through a smaller incision, with the breast’s own tissue and support structures left as intact as possible.

A technique, not just an implant.

Preservé is Motiva’s approach to creating the implant pocket. Rather than dividing tissue to make room, it uses a set of purpose-made instruments — a channel separator and an inflatable balloon — to separate and stretch the existing tissue so it settles around the implant.

The implant sits above the chest muscle, so the muscle is not cut or lifted. The incision is smaller than a conventional augmentation — roughly 2.5 to 3 cm rather than about 4 cm — because the instruments are introduced through a narrower opening.

Surgeons must complete Motiva’s dedicated training to offer it. The implants used are Motiva’s Ergonomix™ SmoothSilk® devices, designed to provide a soft, natural look and feel and move with your body.

The approach is designed for women who want an elegant, soft, natural, and beautifully proportioned result — sometimes described as the “ballerina” or “yoga breast” aesthetic — enhancing your breasts while still looking and feeling completely like yourself. Its less-invasive approach may allow for less downtime and a more streamlined recovery in appropriately selected patients, which makes it appealing for busy moms, athletes, and professionals who can’t put life on hold.

What it sets out to preserve

Working with the anatomy rather than through it.

Breast tissue

The pocket is stretched open rather than cut, so less of the gland and surrounding tissue is divided.

The chest muscle

Because the implant sits above it, the pectoral muscle is left intact and keeps its normal function.

Nipple sensation

Limiting dissection is intended to spare the nerves that carry sensation to the nipple.

Internal support

Keeping the breast’s own support structures intact is intended to hold the implant in position over time.

Motiva reports a 0% rate of inferior malposition at three years in its clinical study of the technique. Published long-term data remains limited, and results vary between patients.

Candidacy

Who it suits

Preservé is best suited to a first augmentation with a moderate implant size. Dr. Duggal will tell you plainly if a conventional approach would give you a better result.

Considering a first breast augmentation

Wanting to keep the breast tissue, ligaments, and chest muscle intact

Enough natural tissue to cover an implant placed above the muscle

In good general health, at a stable weight

A non-smoker, or willing to stop before surgery and through recovery

An honest comparison

What you gain, and what you trade.

Preservé is a newer, heavily marketed technique. We would rather you understand the tradeoffs than be sold on the name.

In its favour

A smaller scar — about 1 cm shorter than standard

Less tissue trauma, which generally means less swelling and an easier first week

The chest muscle is untouched, so no animation deformity

Instruments are single-use and purpose-designed for the pocket

Worth knowing

Placing an implant above the muscle is not unique to Preservé — that comes from the plane, not the brand

The pocket is created through a smaller opening, which gives the surgeon less direct view

Implant choice is limited to the devices the technique is designed around

Practices generally charge a premium over a conventional augmentation

Planning your result

See your options before you decide.

Vectra 3D imaging lets you look at different implant choices on your own frame during the consultation, so the conversation is about your result rather than a number.
