How to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle After Liposuction

Now that liposuction has trimmed you down to your desired body contour, now what? How do you keep your abdominal tight or your arms trim and slim? Here are some suggestions from our staff at Sandel Duggal Plastic Surged & MedSpa to help you retain your well-deserved figure.

Drink Water

Proper hydration helps you lose weight. It keeps you from hunger when your body doesn’t need food. Many overweight people eat because they are dehydrated after drinking sugary sodas instead of good ole H2O.

Experts recommend that you drink about sixty-four ounces of water per day to lose weight and maintain weight loss. This practice helps your body lose weight by burning calories while you rest. Adults tend to lose between twenty-four and thirty percent of body weight by a sufficient amount of water.

Follow a Regular Exercise Regimen

Most people who’ve had liposuction have lost weight but need to rid themselves of stubborn fat bulges.  They must understand how important exercising is to lose weight and keep it off. Two weeks after surgery is enough time to resume (or start) your exercise regimen. Follow your plastic surgeon’s advice on what you can and cannot do concerning working out and strenuous activities.

Aerobic Exercises

Your plastic surgeon may recommend you start moving within forty-eight hours after liposuction. Listen to your body when you think it’s had enough exercise. Wait at least three weeks to resume aerobic workouts like running, spin, or aerobic classes. Then, start slowly and gradually ease into your routine.

Resistance Exercises

During the second week after your procedure, you may resume some resistance training but not the area targeted by surgery. However, once this area is fully healed, you can slowly resume weight training or resistant bands. Remember, start light and work your way up while listening to your body at every stage.

Avoid a Sedentary Lifestyle

In addition to aerobic exercises, you should increase your activity level to keep yourself active and in good shape. Too much sitting around may cause excess weight and fat to return.

Here are some tips to beat back a sedentary lifestyle:

  • If you work sitting down, get up and move about every twenty to thirty minutes. Maybe walk around your work area, get some water, or take a short stroll. If there are stairs in the building, hike up and down a floor.
  • Stand up for phone calls.
  • Work at a standing desk.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Watch television while standing or moving. Get some light cardio while watching your favorite show.
  • Less television, more recreational activities.

Make Healthy Diet Choices

Incorporate healthy foods into your diet. Choose lean meats, fish, and chicken for protein. Hard-boiled eggs are chock full of protein and nutrients with few calories. Eat more vegetable salads, steamed vegetables, and raw fruits.

Avoid sugar and excess carbohydrates. Limit bread and pasta consumption by replacing them with Sweet Potatoes, spaghetti squash, and Soba noodles.

If you select healthy foods, your liposuction benefits will be easier to maintain.
