labiaplastyLabiaplasty refers to a reduction in the size and redundancy of the inner labia, or labia minora. Large labia can be something you are born with, similar to large breasts or a large nose, or over time from pregnancy and gravity the labia can become longer and more protuberant. The goal of the procedure is to reduce the labia minor so they do not hang below the outer labia, or labia majora.

Women choose to undergo labiaplasty for several very personal reasons. It can help to reduce discomfort while exercising or wearing tight clothing, to prevent the labia from coming out of a bathing suit or underwear, to improve the overall appearance of the labia, and to improve the symmetry between the labia if one is longer than the other.

As a woman, Dr. Duggal appreciates the sensitive and discreet nature of this procedure. Many women are unaware there are surgical treatments for these uncomfortable issues, but it is growing much more popular.

  • How is labiaplasty performed?

Labiaplasty is most commonly performed under general anesthesia or sedation, and is an outpatient procedure. The incisions are placed on the inside of the labia in order to restore a more tailored and discreet appearance to the labia minora.

  • What is the recovery like?

Cold packs and anti-inflammatory pain medication will be recommended for the first few days following surgery. Light activity can be resumed 1-2 days after surgery but bruising and swelling will take 1-2 weeks to improve.
