Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lift in Annapolis, MD

For many women, the proportions and shape of the buttocks are essential elements in a curvaceous body. A buttock lift reshapes and restores curves to sagging, deflated, or flat buttocks. Surgeons can do this by transferring fat to the buttocks from a “donor” part of the body — a procedure called a Brazilian butt lift — or by removing and lifting skin to raise the contours of the derriere with a buttock lift.

Dr. Duggal has extensive experience in performing body contouring procedures, including buttock reshaping. She has a reputation for providing beautifully customized and natural results. Contact us today to schedule a consultation in Annapolis.

What is a Buttock Lift or Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian butt lift is a combination of procedures to remove fat from around the buttocks (the waist, love-handles, lower back, and often legs) and use that fat to re-shape the buttock area.

The first step is to use liposuction to remove excess fat from an area such as your hips, waist, love-handles, lower back, or thighs.  This liposuction can have a dramatic improvement on the ratio of your waist-to-hips and also increase the relative size of your buttocks compared to the surrounding areas.  For many women, they are thrilled with the changes from liposuction alone and do not need any fat grafting.

For women who do want to further enhance their buttocks, Dr. Duggal then injects the harvested fat cells into your buttocks region to enhance their curves.  While surgeons used to inject large volumes of fat to increase the size of the buttocks, there is significant evidence that this can lead to complications or even death.  Knowing this, Dr. Duggal is conservative with the fat that she injects and uses it to enhance shape rather than to significantly increase size.

Because a Brazilian butt lift involves two body-contouring procedures — removing fat from a part of your body that needs slimming, then adding it to your backside — it has a dual effect. A thinner midsection or slimmer thighs will accentuate the effect of the fuller, rounder buttocks.

A buttock lift is a related surgical procedure to raise and reshape the derriere by removing excess skin from the top of the buttocks and pulling them upward to improve their contour. This surgery might be your best option if sagging — rather than flat or deflated — buttocks is your main problem, or if you have loose skin after weight loss or because of normal aging.>A buttock lift alone does not add volume to your buttocks, but it’s possible to modify the procedure to move fatty tissue from your waist area to your buttocks. Or, you can choose to combine a buttock lift with a Brazilian butt lift to both elevate and add volume to your buttocks.

How Can a Buttock Lift or Brazilian Butt Lift Benefit Me?

Due to genetics, many women have naturally undersized buttocks that are out of proportion with their bodies and don’t have the feminine curves they would prefer. Other women find that their buttocks thin or sag with age. And many women have diet- and exercise-resistant areas of excess fat around their waist and lower back or on their thighs.

How is a Brazilian Butt Lift or Buttock Lift Performed?

A Brazilian butt lift involves three main steps:

First Step

Dr. Duggal performs liposuction to remove excess, unwanted fat from a specific area of the body. After numbing the target area, she makes tiny incisions in the skin, then suctions out the fat using a thin tube called a cannula. Dr. Duggal’s technique includes separating the fat with a special instrument before starting to remove fat through the cannula, then spreading the remaining fat out to ensure a smooth, even, and beautiful contour.

Second Step

Dr. Duggal purifies the harvested fat and prepares it for grafting by injection.

Third Step

Dr. Duggal injects precisely controlled amounts of the harvested fat into carefully selected areas of your buttocks to create a smooth, rounded, fuller contour. Then, she closes the tiny incisions made to harvest and inject the fat with stitches.

A buttock lift is a more involved surgical procedure. After making incisions above the buttocks, near the waistline, Dr. Duggal removes excess skin and pulls up the remaining skin raise and smooths the contours of the buttocks and eliminates sagging. She closes the incisions with fine sutures to minimize visible scarring.

Both procedures typically take place under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home to rest as soon as the anesthesia has worn off. You’ll need someone to drive you home and should have them stay with you for your first 24 hours at home. If you choose to have a buttock lift in conjunction with other breast or body procedures, you might need to stay overnight in a hospital.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

If you would like a fuller and shapelier butt and have an area of excess fat on your body you’d like to thin with liposuction, you’re probably a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift. If loose, stretched skin and sagging buttocks are your chief concern, you may be a good candidate for a surgical buttock lift. Here are some other considerations:

In your consultation with Dr. Duggal, she will examine you to see if you may benefit from either of the procedures, or possibly from both. She’ll also review your medical history to determine if the procedure will be safe for you. Specific medical conditions create a higher risk of complications from plastic surgery.

What to Expect in Recovery?

After either procedure, you’ll need to wear a compression garment to help support your new curves. For the first day or two, you’ll spend most of your time resting comfortably at home. After that, you’ll be able to resume light activities and gradually build up toward your normal routine. Most patients can go back to work after 10 to 14 days.

You can expect some bruising and swelling immediately after the procedure, which will improve over the first week. Most of the swelling will disappear after four to six weeks. You’ll see positive results immediately and full results after four to six months.

You’ll need to keep pressure off your buttocks for the first two weeks, which means no sitting or lying directly on your butt. We recommend sleeping on your stomach or your side and rest by lying down the same way. After that, Dr. Duggal will give you instructions for sitting on an inflatable pillow to minimize pressure on your buttocks. You can resume normal sitting after about eight weeks.
