Botox & Dysport in Annapolis, MD

Botox® Cosmetic injections reduce fine wrinkles between the eyebrows and diminish the prominence of crow’s feet. It is a safe way to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines around the eyes and forehead. Botox® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved substance, originally approved as a medical treatment to control excessive contraction of the muscles around the eyes. Because the patients receiving Botox® Cosmetic for that purpose were experiencing smoother skin and less wrinkling around the eyes, it was discovered that a lower dose of the chemical might be used for cosmetic purposes.

Dr. Sandel has recently been named by Allergan, Inc., the makers of Botox® Cosmetic, as the number one injector of Botox® in Annapolis. The Sandel Duggal Center for Plastic Surgery and Med Spa has also been awarded with the Brilliant Distinctions Customer Loyalty program. This gives our patients exclusive discounts on all Allergan, Inc. products such as Botox®, Juvéderm®, and Latisse®. Schedule a consultation today to learn more.

Botox® Cosmetic treatments are not permanent. The effects last about three to four months on the average. Dr. Sandel and Dr. Duggal may recommend combining Botox® Cosmetic injections with other treatments such as chemical peelslaser skin treatments, and injectable fillers depending on your needs and desires.

“Facial rejuvenation does not just mean a facelift. There are many other surgical and non-surgical options which can help you look younger and more refreshed, while always making sure you still look like YOU.”

How are Dysport and Botox similar?

Dysport®, like Botox Cosmetic®, is a protein extracted from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum used in the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines between the eyebrows, on the forehead and around the eyes (crow’s feet).

How does Dysport work?

With just one injection into each of the five points between and over the eyebrows, Dysport® blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines.

Treatment with prescription Dysport® can temporarily improve the look of your moderate to severe frown lines. Treatment generally takes just 10 to 20 minutes. Dysport® treatments are not permanent. We may recommend combining Dysport® injections with other treatments such as chemical peelslaser skin treatments, and injectable fillers depending on your needs and desires.

Botox and Dysport FAQs

Botox® Cosmetic injections have earned FDA approval to treat forehead furrows, crow’s feet, and glabellar lines.

Botox® derives from a purified version of the botulinum toxin, which allows it to limit muscle activity. When injected in precise amounts in targeted areas such as your forehead and around your eyes, Botox® can reduce dynamic wrinkles and fine lines that occur due to repetitive facial expressions like squinting and smiling. It gives your skin a smoother look that can take years off your appearance.

Botox® treatments are not permanent. In general, you can expect your results to last for around three to four months until the product wears off. However, this timeline can vary on a case-by-case basis. For many Botox® recipients, the effects of their subsequent treatments last longer than the initial one because repeated use “trains” the targeted muscles not to contract.

This injectable’s temporary effects also allow you to decide whether you like the results of your first treatment and if you would like to retain them in the long run. You have complete flexibility to rethink your decision and manage your looks however you prefer.

By reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and fine lines, Botox® provides you with a youthful appearance. However, Botox® does not alter your existing features. If you want to add more definition to your cheeks or revise your lips, you may need to look to other non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers. Discuss your aesthetic goals with your provider to learn what complementary procedures may fulfill your goals.

Following Botox® injections, you’ll need to avoid applying any pressure to the treated area to avoid unintended product migration. For best results, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours to apply makeup to give your neuromodulator plenty of time to settle and allow your injection sites to recover completely.

After three to four months, Botox® usually starts wearing off. However, the overall timeline varies from person to person. Some of our patients require a follow-up treatment within two to three months. For others, it could take up to six months.

Discussing your expectations with Drs. Sandel and Duggal will help you manage your expectations for maintenance treatments, while ensuring you continue to realize your goals for reducing unwanted wrinkles and fine lines.
